Skyscraper Series: Queen Anne’s Lace, Unexpected Fig, and Griffin Egg Mixed Media Oil on Canvas. Queen Anne’s Lace is a mysterious flower. So beautiful in places where nothing else will grow, a wild carrot that repropagates itself every two years. I painted these during the pandemic as so many buildings were closed or empty. I painted while meditating on two dreams. One, that my brother said “Skycrapers are only voids where the sky should be.” And one other dream I had about mystical tree filled with nests full of griffin eggs. I painted the griffin bird, a protector of treasure, on a five-foot heart for the city installation. Even when we are in the darkest times, dreams are an inner light, a mystery puzzle. Our inner life can be a friend. Dreams provide insight, energy, and direction.
